Week 13 and 14


             Week 13&14: Motorcycle Diaries 

 Image result for che guevara shirt               For the weeks of 13 and 14 in FYE we discussed the life of Che Guevara. We were required to watch the film motorcycles dairies (Link here) to introduce to Che. I personally had no idea who he was and what his actions were, So this was a completely new topic. Upon first finishing the film I google who he was and was completely shocked to find out about the horrible things this man had done. In class Wednesday we went more in depth in to the later life of Che, and also about how his face is over many merchandise as a kind of symbol to rebellion. I feel like this should not be done. He was a terrible person who should not be glorified. It seems wrong that companies would profit off these things.
                 On Wednesday we listen to the song "Al Otro Lado Del Rio"(Link Here) and learned that it won a Oscar. We also discussed his intentions and whether or not he was justified. If he was evil or a hero? I feel that after his actions and violent takeovers that he was a terrible person. But on the other hand I do think that his intentions began has just and good. He stood up those who needed it and that is good. Despite this his actions were still awful regardless of his intentions.
                I think it is important to mention that we only know what the US tells us and it seem conceivable that they may exaggerated his violence to demonize communism. Ultimately I do not think this though. I just think it is important to remember that there are two sides to everything and to approach these things with some skepticism. In conclusion I think that the power Che gained eventually corrupted him and he began to lose sight of his good intentions.

                                                         Week 15: Final As the first semester ends, I look back at all the interesting and lively discussions this FYE class as had and I think next semester I am really going to miss it. Its funny to think about how I expected so much to dislike this class, but now I want it to continue. In this FYE class we discussed a ton of different issues from asking good inquisitive questions to a two-week long deliberation on the “Make your Home Among Strangers” controversy. This class was unlike many of my other classes because it did not have tests or lectures but instead challenged me to question myself to find the goals I want out of college and how to approach different perspectives. Week One Reflection

Week One Reflection  In Class This weeks topic was Campus engagement and what it means to be engaged. We discussed first in small groups then in the entire class group. We also watched a ted talk ( https://www.youtube.-com/watch?v=29tJAgc54RA ) about why we are here in college and About paving our own paths instead of the ones laid out by others, and if college was for everyone. Class discussion  As I said, in the discussion we talked about the word "engage" and said that inside of college it typically means to get involved in the community, join clubs and community service.
