Week Two Reflection: The Honors Program and Time Management
Image result for cartoon picture of a grandfather clockIn class this week on Monday we had three guest speakers, Dr. Engel, Dr. Desiderio, And Erin Martin to discuss with us the requirements and exceptions of being in the honors program. I Found this session to be extremely informational. To be quite honest I had no idea what the requirements were for the honors college so this was completely necessary for me to see all the the resources the honors college has and meet the people who can help me have success. It made me realize that I was lucky to be part of a program that will push me to do the things I need to do to get the most out of college, such as study abroad or conduct research. On Wednesday in class we got in to small groups and were given a list of objectives with point values assigned to each of them. them were given a small amount of time to score the most points. We followed up the activity with a discussion on how we manage our time and strategies we had for getting the most points. We also discussed that there are only about 88,000 seconds in a day and how we should use them productively and prioritize how we spend them. Which is what I think time management really boils down to, prioritizing. In order to spend our limited time wisely we must take stock of what is important. We shouldn't procrastinate to often because, at least for me anyway, it just increases my stress and I often spend the time before starting the assignments stressed out and unhappy. Because of the worry my work I produce is often sloppy and bad.Outside of class this week I tried out the Focus@will app (https://www.focusatwill.com/app/downloads/windows) which I found to be somewhat helpful and used it every time I was working on homework. I also made a point of finishing my homework early and found that I was sleeping better when I was on top of things.
